A maximum of 7 New River Light and Power Scholarships are available for current high school seniors only from Watauga County. There will be 3 scholarships for $4,000 awarded and 4 scholarships of $2,000. The New River Light and Power Scholarships are awarded at the discretion of the scholarship committee. Finalists for the NRLP Scholarships will be required to participate in a meeting at Watauga High School where they will be asked to write an essay for the committee.
The New River Light and Power Scholarships are available for eight consecutive semesters or four years of undergraduate study provided recipients maintain a 3.0 GPA at the end of each academic year.
Recipients of New River Light and Power merit scholarships are residents from Watauga County or have completed high school in Watauga County and in 2013-2014 boasted an average 4.5 GPA and 1326 SAT (critical reading + math sections only).
For consideration of merit scholarships, applicants must have a completed Admissions application and Scholarship application on file by November 15.
Students will be invited to apply for the NRLP Scholarships based on their Admissions application. Students will then be notified if they are selected for the interview process after completion of the scholarship application.
