Appalachian Warrior Fund
The Appalachian Warrior Fund has been established at Appalachian State University to honor veterans. This scholarship fund is for honorably discharged and disabled veterans and their children who have been admitted and enrolled at the university. The scholarship is for veterans with a disability rating between 10 and 50 percent awarded from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Veterans must possess a minimum GPA of 2.8 and must be residents of North Carolina. In addition, they must provide proof of their discharge status and disability rating. The children of disabled veterans must possess a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher and must be residents of North Carolina. The General University Application (GUS) for 2020-2021 is currently closed.
The National Pan-Hellenic Council Divine Nine Leadership Award
The mission of The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) Divine Nine Leadership Endowment is to provide an award of $1,000 to active members of an NPHC organization at Appalachian State University. This NPHC Leadership Award will be used to support leadership and/or professional development of students to become leaders in their organizations, communities, and professions. The recipient will work separately in collaboration with a department, professor, or faculty/staff member to present the leadership development training results to the Appalachian community. Acceptable presentation examples include, but are not limited to, a Showcase Presentation, Podcast, Live Stream, or Short Story/Presentation. The General University Application (GUS) for the 2020-2021 academic year is currently closed.
Qualified candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Full-time student in good standing with Appalachian
- An active member of an NPHC Divine Nine chapter in good standing with Appalachian
- Minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.0
- Minimum of twenty (20) hours of community service
- Campus leadership position within the current or prior academic year
The Clara and Shirley Ray Endowed Scholarship for Western North Carolina Students
The purpose of the scholarship is to provide renewable scholarships to full-time North Carolina undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll at Appalachian State University. Special consideration will be given to students who successfully completed a "New Century Scholars" or similar program when in high school.
The "New Century Scholars" program is a western North Carolina public school program designed to improve college readiness and prepare students who might not otherwise graduate from high school or pursue a college degree. New Century Scholars are identified for program participation as rising 7th graders, and will typically be involved in specialized tutoring/counseling, job shadowing, visits to college campuses, and other opportunities for local youth to remain drug and alcohol-free, and engage in volunteer/community services. The application for the 2019/2020 academic year is currently closed.
To be eligible:
- North Carolina resident
- Enrolled or planning to enroll full-time at Appalachian State University
- Participation in a New Century Scholars program or similar program in the western region of North Carolina. When completing the application, students will be asked to name and briefly describe the qualifying program they participated in.
- Eligible students must provide the name and contact information of the Program Director or Adviser who has agreed to confirm their participation in the program and provide a letter of reference on their behalf.
- Eligible students will be asked to upload an unofficial copy of their most recent high school or college transcript.
John Nicholson Idol Scholarship Endowment
The purpose of the John Nicholson Idol (Family of John Idol, Jerry Watson or Austin Enoch) Scholarship is to provide support to undergraduate students who have been admitted for enrollment, or are currently enrolled and in good standing, and have demonstrated academic achievement in any area of study. Special consideration shall be given to Watauga County residents. The scholarship shall be automatically renewable based on continued academic merit.

Edward J. Perkins International Affairs Book Award
The purpose of the Edward J. Perkins International Affairs Book Award is to provide financial support to junior, senior or graduate students majoring in an international relations field with a GPA of 3.2 or above. The award is to be used for the purchase of academic and other books to advance a student's international affairs-related studies. Special consideration will be given to students who demonstrate financial need. This scholarship application is currently closed.
Stick Boy Bread Company Scholarship
The Stick Boy Bread Company Scholarship was established to support students of Appalachian State University. Students being considered for this scholarship should complete the application by July 15. All students are encouraged to apply, preference may be given to eligible Stick Boy Bread Company employees. This scholarship is not renewable; however, students may apply each year. This scholarship application will reopen in June 2020 for the 2020-2021 academic year.
Blowing Rock Country Club Scholarship
The Blowing Rock Country Club Scholarship was established to support students of Appalachian State University who are employed by Blowing Rock Country Club and have an interest in pursuing a career in hospitality business and demonstrate responsibility and dependability. The scholarship is only available to Blowing Rock Country Club employees. This scholarship is not renewable however, students may apply each year. This scholarship application will reopen in June 2020 for the 2020-2021 academic year.
Nancy H. Jolly Scholarship
The Nancy H Jolly Scholarship was established for academically motivated sophomores. This scholarship is non-renewable. This scholarship application is currently closed.
Departmental Scholarship Opportunities
Students currently attending Appalachian State University are encouraged to reach out to departments for awards and scholarship opportunities provided by the college in which they have declared a major. These scholarships reward students who have shown dedication and academic achievement in fields that will later benefit their careers. Students who have shown passion for their program of study are invited to apply for department specific awards based on their intended major.
