Wilson Scholars at Ministry of Womens RightsWilson Scholars Program 

Founded by Brad ’75 and Carole Wilson ’75 to support student leaders who want to make a difference in the world, and awarded to six students determined to have the highest potential for future leadership.

The Wilson Scholars Program is Appalachian's premier scholarship, earned by students with excellent academic records, a demonstrated history of service and leadership, and a desire to make significant impacts in their communities. This prestigious program provides full institutional costs (tuition, fees, room and board, book rental), including out-of-state fees, as well as an annual $2,500 Experiential scholarship for investment in learning activities such as study abroad, undergraduate research, service-learning trips or internships. Wilson Scholars spend four life-changing years at Appalachian and graduate having been transformed by exceptional academic mentors and classroom learning with real-world experiences.

Chancellor's Scholar in IrelandChancellor’s Scholars

For 40 years, Appalachian has awarded this scholarship, which is awarded to ten of the highest ability students in The Honors College.

For the highest-achieving students who have earned entry into The Honors College, the Chancellor’s Scholarship is a four-year program of rigorous study with full institutional costs (tuition, fees, room and board, book rental) paid. Chancellor’s Scholars are provided with study-abroad opportunities beginning in their freshman year, numerous classroom and experiential research opportunities and personalized academic mentoring in a unique, living-learning community.

Established in honor of Appalachian's second president, Dr. William Howard Plemmons, and awarded to students who demonstrate academic achievement along with active involvement in high school or community activities.

The Plemmons Leadership Scholars Program is a four-year leadership development program offered to 10 scholars each year that combines a $2,000 award with participation in specially designed leadership development courses, workshops, seminars, retreats, outdoor leadership experiences, conferences, experiential opportunities and individual needs assessment.

The success of Appalachian depends upon the achievement and cooperation of a diverse community of students with the cultural understandings to address the educational, economic and societal needs of our changing communities, region, state, nation and the world. The Diversity Scholar Program is awarded to students who value diversity and have demonstrated a commitment to diversity that they wish to continue as an Appalachian student.

The Diversity Scholars Program is a four-year leadership development program that combines funding at the amount of full in-state tuition and fees (tuition, fees, book rental), with participation in specially designed leadership development workshops, service-learning, international experiences and mentorship opportunities.

Appalachian State University is committed to making higher education affordable for every North Carolina student and has developed the Appalachian Commitment to a College Education for Student Success (ACCESS) program as a method to ensure that students from low-income families in North Carolina can attend Appalachian debt-free.

Established by the Alumni Council, the Alumni Memorial Scholarship is awarded to children of Appalachian Alumni. This four-year scholarship awards $2,000 annually.

The Academic Excellence Scholarship recognizes the top students in the freshman class. Academic Excellence Scholarships amount up to $10,000 over four years. Students selected for the Academic Excellence Scholarship demonstrate a strong academic record, leadership experience, community service, and the desire to be an engaged member of the Appalachian Family.

Scholarship opportunities are set aside exclusively for incoming freshman based on their intended majors. These scholarships are awarded through the standard scholarships admission process, but only students with decided majors in each college will be considered.
